SUMMER ASSOCIATE PROGRAM
Montgomery, Barnett selects summer associates who demonstrate academically superior performance and the ability to succeed, both professionally and personally. Candidates are usually second year students who are chosen from the top 30% of law schools in Louisiana. Summer associates are encouraged to work for a period of six weeks in order to become fully acquainted with the Firm.
The summer associate program is designed to introduce law students to the day-to-day reality of the practice of law at Montgomery, Barnett.
On the first day, summer associates are given orientation, including training on the firm's computer-aided research resources and a tour of the office to meet the attorneys and staff. Each summer associate is assigned a mentor during his/her clerkship. The mentor's role is to provide the summer associate with regular feedback and to answer questions about the firm or a particular assignment.
While the attorneys at Montgomery, Barnett do their best to provide assignments that will accommodate each person's particular interest, summer associates are often given assignments involving a wide spectrum of legal issues. Many summer associates have remarked that they enjoy the challenge of working on varied assignments. Summer associates also have the opportunity of accompanying the firm's attorneys to depositions, conferences, hearings, mediations, and other legal proceedings.
On the last day of the program each summer associate meets with his/her mentor to receive feedback on performance and to discuss their experience at the firm.
